Athletic Club's Annual Meeting

A -*very enthusiastic annual general meeting of the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycxing Club was held on Thursday night, when Mr. F. Edwards presided -over a splendid attenuance. Opinions were expressed that the coming season should- see the local cyclists again1 figuring prominently.. Mild criti-j cism was levelled at the centre for | its apparent apathy in not for-j warding particulars of entrants ; and their handicap marks. The1 lack of a permanent track was advanced as a possible reason for j the apathy shown, and members agreed that the club should do all' possible to support the scheme for further sports grounds in thej hope of being able to establish such a track at a later d-ate. It was decided to convey the club's thanks to the Otaki Borough Council for its contmued help and support, and a contribution is to be forwarded towards the cost of work done in preparing the domain. Thanks are also to be conveyed to Mr. E. T. Bartosh for his invaluable help in making transport available when members have had to travel long distances. The chairman invited discussion as to the best means of placing the Birley Shield, and the committee is to fmalise this matter. Thanks were extended to Mr. H. F. Birley for his kindly interest in the club. The transfer of T. Searancke from Petone to Otaki was approved. An offer of substantial art union prizes having been made, the chairman explained that all the proceeds from saies of tickets would be for the club alone, and it was agreed that substantial financial help would be forchcoming if the club got behind the effort. Evening sports meetings are to commence on the first Wednesday in November, and the committee will meet on October 20. Ofhcers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: — Patron: Mr. H. B.
