More Colour A Feature Of Apparel For Men
Emphasis seeihs to be on colour and glamour for many of the ljnesof ^ men's ahd women's swimming suits displayCd in local and city stpres. Gay patterns predominate and in the majority of cases the material contains ' much • silk and wool, though some are of cotton only. Modesty prevails in the majority of women's lines so that i/here should be little trouble with local body-. authorities and the police, and few blushes' on New Zealand's beaches. Summer shirts are gayer * thair " ever with patterns which woui^-' have astoun^ded in - earlier years, Retailers say, however, that the "preference is still for the long sleeyed, plain white shirts, which • are more plentifuj locally this summer. One retailer said that the gay-patterned shirts were not .tak,ng on, older men still clinging to che more conservative styles. The New Lopk for men is shown in a longer suit coat of straighter lines than in . the past. Three inich.es' have been added, but retailers say that although this looks well in suits for big men, it may not be popular with tnose of short s'tature. Sports coats too have inereased in some instances by two inches in length. Plus fours are coming back and although there are not many yet on display in local stores, a few have been seen on the golf course and this is one return which should be popular with golfers. Golfing stockings, however, will still be a headaehe Tor retailers jn regard to supply. Butterfly bow fcies for everyday wear are stocked in some shops, but although they are beirig worn to quite an extent in the cities they are not in great demand in Levin. Most local shops are fairly well 'stocked in working shirts and street shirts with attached collars, although the stage has not yet been reached when stocks of reserves ean be built.up. Shirts for big men, much negleeted in the past, are. obtainable in limited quantities in some shops. • Sports trousers are also on display in r larger quantities than have been seen for some years but the prices, | particularly for the better class of trouser, come as a shock to the average buyer. Prices in these I lines range from 54s to 83s. In the sporting iines, blazers are 1 still hard to obtain. A few have been displayed lately. Cream trousers are still hard to obtain, some lines of white cotton trousers having been seen. Pdnama hats are in better supply than in the past and there are more of tne straw variety about.
