"The 'district nurse, Sister McDonald, carried out her routine inspection and recommended that one -class should have chest X-rays. Arrangements are being made to have this "done as soon as the hospital at Palmerston North can deal with it. During the school vacation the shrubs bought with the money raised by the pupils through their concei't at the end of last term were planted dn a specially prepared plot at the rear of the main building. Two teams of basketball players from the school participated in the annual tournament at Palmerston North and derived much pleasure and profit from their experience. "A ceremony was held at the school on September 15 to . commemorate the Battle of Br itain. All classes in the school' now' receive religious instruction eyery week under the 'Nelson System.' This has been made possible by Revs. Wheeler and Ashworth coming from Foxton, and has greatly eased the heavy duties of Rev. ' J, Martin, v/ho previously had to instruct all the protestaht pupils on his own. The efforts made by these gentlemen, and by Father Foley are appreciated. Instructional visits were. made . .by Messrs, W. Hesse and • Barnett (agriculture supervisor and instructor respectively). "The annual combined Foxton and Shannon Schools' music festival will take place at Foxton on October 19 and at Shannon in the Druids' Hall on October 21. As it was felt that the strain of three performances in the week was too great for the younger pupils, it was decided this year to confine the festival to -two schools. Te .September meeting of theParentsTeachers' ASsociation took the form of a demonstration of the school work by the senior pupils. The October meeting will be a screening of fllms by the Wellington Automobile Association and an address by Mr. W. A. Sutherlan'd, secretary of the association."
