In the first three months of this yea: three out of every four British house-. wives reported sick, it is stated by the liegistrar-General 's quarterly return In a survev of the sickness investigation's interview of a cross-section of the population, it is shown that nearly half the men and more than half the women had consulted their doctors during February. For the first full three months of the year illuess or injury was reported by 67.2 per cent. of all interviewed with an average loss of 1.1 working days a month. Illness or injury among housewives was 6.3 per cent. higher than the general level. Over ' 90 per cent. of the population had signed up with their iocal doctors since the inauguration of the national health service 011 July 5, said the Health" Minister (Mr. Aneurin Bevan). " It is extremely gratifying to note tha! pra,ctieally all the active general practitioners have joined the service." Also 8039 out of a possible 10,00!) deutists are taking part in the scbeme, ,Mr. Bevan said. Up to September the Deptal Estimates Board had received estimate forms which indicated that over 1,000,000 people sought treatmenl under the scheme.
