Possibility of Arab-Jew Settlement

Reuter 's Roine correspondent says the acting United Nations mediator for Palestine, Doctor Ralpli Bnnche, en route to Paris, said there was a greater possibility of settlement between Jews and Arabs than for montlis past. He was most hopeful that an agreement would be reached. An Israeli military spokesman said that a heavy battle is raging in Negev, in Houtli Palestine, where Egvptian forces, supported by tanks and aircraft, have attacked the two Israeli-held heights of Tel Kuneitra and Hirbeth Makhaz, south of Gaza. | The spokesman said that the heights were occupied by the Egvptians, wlio wrnre later driven otf by Israeli troops, The heights changed hahds twice and the Israeli forces held them this morning under bombing attacks from Egvptian planes, as well as attacks by tanks and infantry. A Xew York message states that the proposal for the 100;000,fl00 dollar United States Export and Import Bank Loan to Israel has been slielved, and instead, consideration is being given to tlie financing of speciiic projec'ts in Israel. It is understood that the disturbed conditions in that coun- , tvy made the loan a bad risk. I
