Wellington, Oetober 8. With the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting only a week away keen interest is' being taken' in the Masterton Racing Club's spring fixture at Opaki tomorrow, where record fields are carded. . The majority of the horses racing tomorrow are acceptors the following week at Trentham^ which might affect form working out reliably tomorrow.* Provisions have been made to run four of the eyents. in divisions, but it is hoped to avoid this in the Solway Handicap. The Auckland spring meeting also opens tomorrow when the G.N. Guifieas and Mitchelson Cup will be the main events. Other fixtures carded are South Canterbury, Waipukurau and the Forbury Park and Wanganui Trots.
The Masterton Cup is expected to be a "go'od thing" for Liebestraum, who is the only good fonn horse in the race. The long straight should' be to liis a'dvantage. Having benefited from recent racing, Renown should be seen to advantage as also should The Stormovik, Batley, Lord Holland and Peter Theio. Ballinagh is well, an'd will race prominently The best sprinters from round these quarters have been drawn together in the Solway Handicap. Some, no doubt, are there for a pipe-opeper before Trentham. Best recent form horses are Red Herring, Garry Castlebrae, Mangatiti, Da Vinci, Demonic, Rumba, Diana Reynard and Trafa'lgar Day. Although the distance may be a little short for him Mangatiti is not without good prospects. He has been working attractively and his performance tomorrow will be watched in view of Trentham engagements. The long Opaki straight will suit him. Rumba and Red Herring are the favouriteS.
Prospects for Masterton, Auckland, South Canterbury, Waipukurau and Forbury Park Trots are:
