WELLIXGTON, Oct. 6. After negotiating- with the Oil Fuel Controller for an allocation of petrol, the Wellington district committee oi the Communist Party wrote to the Minister of Supply, (Mr. Xordmeyer) protesting against the decision and asking for a fuel oil licence eqnivalent to that supplied officials of other politicai parties. Mr. Xordmeyer replied that it was diliicult to assess a fair basis for comparisons in the case of minor parties, lnit it Ifad been decided to relate the allocation of petrol to the votes polled for ^he candidates of the respective parties at the 1946 election. On that basis the Communist Party would be entitled to three gallons a month. Commenting on this decision the district secretary i states that unless the Government reconsidered the position the Communist Party automaticaliy would be placed in the ridiculous position of having to. contest every electorate in order to get the maximum number of votes and so secure a reasonable amount of petrol.
