Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 6. The average weekly budget for every person in the United Kingdom, calculated from otficial returns for the second quarter this year, are: — . Food 17s, tohacco 6s 2d, clothing 6s 7d, drink 5s 8d. ^ ' The expenditure on food, £544,000,000, is over l.J times the 1938 average and tohacco 4| times higher. -The drink bill was considerahly more than double the 1938 outlay. The monthly digest of statistics which published the figures, gives a record total expenditure of £2,008,000,000 on consumer goods and services for the quarter.
