WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. The New Zealand Police Forc-e was at present 00 below strength and if an earlier retiring age and other proposals were brought into effect, numIters of recruits would be required, said the Deputy Priuie Vlinister, Mr. Nash, when opening the IMth annnal conference today of the New Zealand Police Force Associatio.n. He congratnlated the police on their work during the year and said the cost of tulniinistrat ion was one of the lowest in the world per cnpita. Tlie president, Sergeant A. G. Quin, reiterated the loyalty of the force to the Government and King and said the force wonld cheerfully accept heavy duties and responsibilities in connection with the Royal visit. Inspector Young expressed the opinion that the formation of the Association had not been a weakening factor in the discipline of the force.
