. SYDNEY, Oct. 4.' Bleak southerly weather, rain and a heavy track reduced . the crowds attending - at Randwiek today. Finisliing brilliantly, the outsider. Buonarotti Boy won the Metropolitan from Karachi and Kerry Lad. The hot favourite Dark Marne found the weight too heavy for the sodden track and finished eighth. Following Qardinal Colour in the early stages Kerry Lad hung on in a favourable position until enteripg the straight when, with Karachi, he made his bid. Then Buonarotti Boy entered a strong chaileuge with a dazziing run down the outside. He went to the front a short distanee from the post and won running away. The Soutli Australian sprinter Comedy Prince was never oif the bit to win the idhorts Handicap by three lengtlis from Cognac. He was having his first Sydney race and his first start since the unsuccessful trip to Brisbane for the Doomben Ten Thousand. Comedy Prince stuck to the rails and-in an effort to pass Cognac lost much ground. The Whirlaway filly Rhumba seemed untroubled in the Gimcrack Stakes which she, won after racing into the lead at the top of the straight. She had no difiiculty in staving off the chailenge of the Nizami filly Favour in the last hundred yards. Pantonxime was never going lilce a winner but managed to beat its stablemate Tivoli Star for third position. The poor showing of Dark Marne in the Metropolitan saved the day for the bookmakers who. had heavy doubies eommitments. Results: — GIMCRACK .STAKES.
