Small Rainfall For September

Figures supplied by Mr. F. H. Critchley, of Tasman Beach, reveal that the total rainfall for Otaki for the month of September was 203 points, compared with 242 points in September, 1947. The weather was cairn on 15 days during the month, rain falling on 12 'days, the heaviest f all ! recorded being 40 points on the j 28th. Five mild frosts were recorded during the month and there were two light coatings of snow on the Tararua Ranges. Aithough winter officially en'ded on the 23rd, the weather was very mild for quite some time prior to that date, and free from wind, but westerlies prevailed throughout the flnal week, many times reaching gale force.
