The United States Navy anuounced today that 12 single-eugine fighters and dive bontbers will span the 2100 miles of ocean hetwTen California and Hawaii on Tuosday, using aircraft earriers as ret'uelling "slepping stones, " en rotite. The announcement said the Hight was planned to denton slrate "a fast and practical method of ferrying large nuinhers of carrier type aircraft from their home base to advanced areas in a transoceanic fl'ght. " Two earriers will he ttsed, oue slationed at Ihe quarter inark and the other at the f hree-quarter mark. Similar fiighls with jet plunes are planned i'oi the future.
