West Coast Butchers Close Indefinitely
- GREYMOUTH, Oct. 1. The. West 'Coast butchers this afteraoon elosed indefinitely in- the absence of a reply fiom the Governinent promi$ing a satisfactory solutioh to the question of the wholesale price. Supplies of meat therefore will have to be obtained from Canterbury. The butchers today* cleaned out most of their stocks. It is understood that in the meantime hospitals only will be supplied. The president of the Master Butchers ' Association (Mr. J. S. Trowbridge), said there was no fre^li development and all the shops were remainingelosed until- further notice. The committee handling the dispute meets on Monday at 2 p.ni. by which time it was lioped the authorities would have done something enabling the butchers to reopen. The high price for livestoCk at present meant a loss on every carcase sold. •' *
