Wheat Ships Held Up In Sydney Harbour
Reeeived Fridav, 8.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Oet. 1. | Sixteen overseas wheat ships art ' held up in Sydney Harbour because the 1 raihvays have been unable to deliver ; the grain to iill them. More .than 20, 000, 000 bushels of wheat, nearly all of it in bags, are still lying at country centres but because of lack of transport much of it must go to waste. The total amount of export wheat in Sydney last night was 10,000 tons of four ditferent qualities which could not be mixed to lill any one ship. The port 's immediate need is for 300,000 tons, l)ut the railwavs are delivering less than 27,000 tons of export wheat weekly. Tn bulk and bagged wheat the railwavs have actually carried nearlv 08.000,000 bushels to the seaboard in ten nionths. This is an alltime record, but has not been sutticient to meet the needs of the abnonnal harvest.
