Horowhenua Institutes In Group Rally
. L'he llth rally of the Horbwhenua Groua of Women's Institutes was held recently in the Kimberley Hail, which had been beautifully decorated ior the occasion by the Kimberley institute, The Horowhenua Group comprises Manakau* Kimberley, Levin, Ihakara, Poroutawhao, Waitarere and Koputaroa Institutes. There was an exeellent attendah'ce of members and visitors', and Mrs. Dome, president of the hostess institute, Kintberley, extended a very cdrdial wel'come to all. Before comhibncing the business of the meeting, Mrs. Dornfe made feeling refetence to the sad loss sttstained by the gr'oup in the receht death pf Mrs. L. Griffith, who had b'e'en a foundation member of both thb Kimberley institute and the group. Members stood in siience as a mark of respbct. Good eiitries wete recteived in the hand-made handkerchief and matmalade competitions. Mrs. L. Doyle, of Levin, acted as judge and her comments on the entries ivere both interesting and ihstruetive. Her awards were as follows:^— Handkerchief: MfS. .•Aitchison (Kimberley) 1, Mrs. Evans (Kimberley) 2, Mrs. Field (Kimberley) 3. Marmalade: Mrs. R. J. Rolston (Ihakara) 1, Mrs. EVahs (Kimberley) 2, Mrs. Gibson (Koputaroa) 3Mrs. Aitchison was presented with a shield for her institute and the prize she had won, whil'e Mrs. Rolston was also presente'd with a prize. Both members were congratulated on their successes. A vote of thanks was passed by acclamation to Mrs. Pickering, who has kindiy audited the books' over a number of years. A most interesting talk on holiday tours for country women and their husbands was then given by Mrs. Jenson, of Waikanae. Mrs. Jenson was accorded a vote of thanks. An entertaining programme was presented during the meeting. Mesdames Bessie Anderson, of Lower Hutt, and Roma Delicate, of: Plimmerton, conducted a humorous mock radio lesson. Mrs. Millward, of Lower Hutt, gave some vocal items and delighted all with her extensive repertoire. Panoforte duets by Mesdames Allen and Routley, elocutionary items by Mrs. Perigo and piano accordian selections • by Miss Robinson were all 'deservedly encored. A coinmunity sing conducted by Mrs. Delicate, with Mrs. Campbell at the piano, was a great success. At the conclusion bouquets were presented to Mrs. Dome, the convener, Mrs. H. S. Powell, the speaker, the judge and the performers. The president of the Waitarere Institute, Mrs. Fa'gan, thanked Mrs. Dome for so capably taking the ehair and the members of th'e Kimberley Institute for the hospitality shown to those present throughout the 'day.
