Four Men Injured When Van Strikes Bus
WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. A mo'tor aeeident in which four men were injured, occurred on Aotea Quay outside the K ail way s Road Serviees garage at 5.15 this afternoon. The injured are: — Leonard A. Dear, timekeeper, Miramar, deep incised wound to foreliead, fractured ribx, laceration to right knee, multiple injuries and eoncussion. James May Stock, elerk, Hataitai, incised. wound to forehead, injury to ribs. David O 'Brien, timekeeper, Lower Hutt, fractured left arai, lacerations to right cheek, shock and eoncussion. W. P. Cleever, blacksmith, Lower Hutt, injuries to ribs and shock. A Railways bus which had just completed the Taumarunui- Wellington run, was being returned to tlie garage along Aotea Quay and was turning into tlie garage when it was struck by a van belouging to Gable and Co., engineers. The force of the impact nioved the bus, weighing 5J tons, about ten feet sideways along the. road and lifted the rear wheels six or eight inches off the ground. A hroken window and dent high in the side of the bus, indicated that the van had bounced before c.oming to rest partially under the bus. Tlie van was almost wreeked but the bus apparently had only the coaehwork damaged. It is believed that all four injured men were in the cab of the van at the time. Mr. O 'Brien was driving. The driver of the bus, Mr. J. A. Read, eseaped injury.
