Collecting Rates Is Big Task For Borough
"Somebody's going to be very busy this week," said the Mayoy, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, when it was pointed out by the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins, at the Levin Borough Council's meeting last night that less than half the rates had been received, despite the fact that the discount period ends on Thursday. The figures given by the town clerk showed that of a gross amount of £17,293 due in rates, only £8612 gross had so far been received. In company with most other offices these days, the Levin Borough Council is far from overstaffed and is consequently not anxious to face a last-minute rush.
