Levin W.I. Holds Garden Afternoon

The September meeting of tne Levin branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers took the form of a garden afternoon. The branch formed a garden circle to which non-members will be welcome. Flowers, plants and vegetables were on sale and found ready buyers. Mr. H. G. Srnith gave a most interesting and instructive talk on the growing of gla'dioli. He presented the corms used in his talk to be sold for the funds of the division. A demonstration on the making of a floral bonbon, suit--able for presenting to sick folk, was given by Mrs. A. M. Colquhoun. Ohau Branch Meets This month's meeting of the Ohau branch was presided over by Mrs. J. A. Kilsby. It was reporte'd that 33 parcels had to date been sent to a home for incurables in England, and letters of appreciation were read from some of the inmates. It was resolved that letters of thanks should be sent to Federated Farmers, the . Ohau :School Committee, Mrs. . Walker and Mr. Carew for the assistance given in the recent sale of work. Mrs. -Benning read the quarterly report of the" meeting of tne provincial- executive, while a comprehensive report was aiso read by the president on the 23rd annual conference of the Women's Division which was held in Dunedin recently. • An interesting demonstration of floral work was given by Mrs. W. Donnelly, and was much appreciated. A competition for the; best vase of flowers was won by IVtrs. W. O. Neas, while the best flower in my garden competition was won by Mrs. W. McLeavey. A pnze was also won by Mrs. J. Crowe, Senr. A bring-and-buy stall in aid of funds for the food for Britain parcels was in charge of Mesdames Guerin and Burt. A display of pictures was much appreciated by members. The hostesses tor the afternoon were Mesdames Dome, Haley and Hunter and Miss Trim.
