Stock Prices Maintained At Levin Sale
- There was a - large yarding of pigs at the Levin sale yesterday, when last week's,. values were fully maintained. Several pens of hqavy baconers came forward and sold re'adily up to £6 18s. There was again a heavy yarding of fat sheep,. with more ewes than has been. the case for some time. Values for wethers were fully firm on lg..st week's rates, heavy prime sorlW selling to £3 11s 4d, while good- medium sorts brought £3 or better. Good black faces sold up to £3 2s 4d and small prime sorts at £2. A smattermg of shorn ewes met with a ready demand, selling at values from 31s lOd to 35s . ld, while prime heavy sorts in the wool realised from 45s ld to 50s 10d. . Medium sorts made from 39s 7d to 43s 4d, while maiden ewes changed hands at up to 63s 4d. The hogget entry was lighter than usual and extra prime quality sorts only were in demana. These realised up to 52s 7d and medium sorts down to 45s ld, while lighter sqrts returned from 35s 7d to 42s ld. A pen of small woolly ewe hoggets, off the hills, were cleared at 26s. . A larger yarding than usual of dairy cattle met with an indifferent demand. The quality, however, was not up to the stanaard required by purchasers and only well grown, good conditioned cattle close o profit were sought, these changing hands at from £14 10s to £15 10s. Smaiier and later calving sorts sold from £8 10s to £11 15s. A larger entry of store catt'le met with the briskest competition of the year, well grown heifers, r.w.b. from August 1, bringing £9 2s 6d and empty heifers £8 5s. A pen of small yearling steers topped £6-, while store and boner cows sought by graziers made well in advance of schedule rates. A small yarding of vealers were keenly ' sought and one vealer heifer returned £11 17s 6d, the highest price ever paid locally. Other values ranged from £5 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d. * " The smallest yarding of fat cattle for many mrinths met with a ready demand, the majority of the yarding being prime oxen which changed hands for medium sorts at from £27 12s 6d to £33 7s 6d. /Light oxen sold from £22 17s 6d to £26 12s 6d. Only six P.A. cows and heifers were penned. Of indifferent quality, they nevertheIess sold well from £14 12s 6d to £16 17s 6d.
