Opiki Daffodil Show
"Another successful daffodil show sponsored by the Gardening Circle of the 'Opiki Women s Institute was held in the Opiki Hall on Saturday last. There were 973 entries. The display _ of cut flowers was of a wide variety and particularly impressive. A record number of entries were received m the bulb sections and all were oi high standard. The cooking, preserves and needlework sectiona were well co.ntested and also of a. high standard. The judges remarked that they had never seen a finer display. The leader (Mrs. Krivan) thanked all those who had helped to piake the show a success. Mrs. Krivan especially thanked the secretary-treasurer (Mrs. J- Aitcheson) for her untiring efforts. The show was opened by Mrs_. Hockly, of Kairanga (president of the Manawatu Federation) , who congratulate'd the Gardening Circle on the fine display and also on being able to hold the show m the hall after a lapse of four years. It is rather a coincidence that the old hall was destroyed by fire three days before the 1944 daffodil show, and this show is the fir£>t function to be held in the new hall following the opening. The judges were:— Bu'lhs, Mr. Larsen; decorative, Mrs. Summers (Levin) ; miscellaneous, Mr. Adamspn (Palmerston North); vegetables, Mr. Bowker (Levin) ; needlework, Mrs. Will (Palmerston. North) ; home industries, Mrs. Hunt (P-almerston North); school work, Mrs. R. Aitcheson (Opiki) . In the evening Mrs. Krivan called upon Mrs. Hockly to present the prizes aftei which the floor was djeared and ! dancing carried on till midnight ! Mr. B. Olsen was M.C. !
