Spring Bulbs At Show Were Major Attraction
The sweet fragrance of spring flowers permeate-d the Century Hall, Levin, yesterday afternoon when a rich profusion of blooms was displayed before judges and the public, the occasion being the first spring show of the - season, held under the auspices of the St. Mary's Angliean Guilvi. . Lovers of orchids found mueh to admire in the special display oy ^ Mrs. Kathleen Black. Other high- " iights of the show included a photographic display by Rev. G. B. Stote-Blandy. Old English scenes taken, developed, eniarged and mounted by him were the subject of much admiration and comment. A 'display of pottery by Mrs, H. Hall was of a commejidably high standard. The champion bloom was a trumpet narcissi entered by Mr. Geo. Larsen (Opiki}, , The other principal prizes: were^.WPh as fdilows :— Champion-' ■ trumpet *, Geo. Larsen; champion - ^ barEii;-. - oeo. Stpte-Biandy and there was a very pjeasing attendanee of the public; Interest in the display was maintairied -throughout the afternoon ;and in the evening. Centre of attraction were displays Of spring bulbs, of \which there were many fine exainples. The judges and stewards of the' various sections were.as follows: — Cut Mooms.— Judge.: Mr. J. Dallenger (Levin). Stewards: Mesdames O. Webb, H: Webb and A. Nichol. Bulbs.— Judge: Mr. C. Evans (Otaki). Stewards: Mesdames H. B. Burdekin and Hugh Walker. Decorative.— Judge: Mrs. M. McGilligan (Otaki).. Stewards : Mrs. W. Smaill and M'iss M. •Hitchcock. Children's decor a ti ye.— Judge: . Mrs. R. Evans (Levin). Stewards: Mesdames W. Duguid' and J." Todd. In. charge of .the produce- stall were Mesdames J. Henderson and E. Phillips, while the tearooms was under the controi of Mesdames T. C. De Mey, W. Gordon, F. Denholm, M. Mulcihsv %- Tilyard, ,E. Williams, W. Dalzell,". Wr Lambeth, A. O. Powell and A/ Hayward. Points Prizes The various . points . prizes . were . won as follows:— ' Narcissi, grown in Levin: Mrs. C. H. Crawford.
