Preparing For Pipe Band Contest
Preparations are in hand for the Wellington-Hawke's Bay Pipe Band Centre's annual contest, which is to be held in Levin next year. Levin was allocated this important event for 1948, but owing to the paraiysis restrictions it was abandoned. At a recent meeting of the centre, Levin was fixed as the venue of the 1949 contest. The local contest committee set up last year met recently and fixecP the date, which will be Saturday, February 12, 1949. With the prospect of 20 bands entering, this promises to be one of the most spectacular events yet heM -in the district and as the contest is to be completed ,m one day, an early start has been decided upon. The quickstep and drum-major's -'dispiay will be held during the day, while the test selection. will be judg-ed at night. The contest will entail a great deal of work and with the idea of rnaking it truly representative of the town and district, cifcularshave been sent out to the various organisations inviting them to send delegates to the next meeting of the committee, which will be held in the Qddfel'lows' Hall, Levin, next Tuesday, September 21.
