Malayan Terrorists Moving Northward
- Beceived Saturday, 12.2 a.m. SINGAPORE, Sept. 10. Tlie Communists in some regions are novv moving northward under pressure into saier areas cm each side of the oiain border where it will be harder to get at them, said Major-General C. H. Boucher,. G.O.C. Malaya, at a press eonfereiice at Ivuala Lumpur. The progress of the Malayan eampaign was reviewed by service chiefs and senior civil administrators. General Boucher said two areas in J'erak Wtate were the worst in INorthern Alalaya. The latest casualty iigures .revealed that the services liad lost 3«S kiiled and 57 wounded. Civilians killed now totalled 134 with 74 wounded. The terrorists lost 146 killed and 84 wounded. Ala.jor-Gfcncral C. Dunlop, G.O.C. Si ngapo ro' 'and Johore, warned that the itiil expected intensilied terrorism in •Johore this month. Air Vice-Marshal A. C. Sanderson, A.O.C. Malaya, promised a new Ii.A.P. offonsive soon against the Comniunists. Lieut.-Gomniander O. Bteiner, Royal Xavy, said the JBritish cruiser Londou was now patrolling the west coast ot Malaya and the sloop Dampier had re iiii'orced tlie units patrolling the east coast. There was no iadication tliat arms and reinforcements were reacliing liie terrorists from the sea. Police patrolling an estate a few miles north of Ipoh today shot dead the ('hinese president of the illegal Sunge] Siput Labourers' lTnion.
