Fat Sheep Prices Depreciate At Levin

Good q.uality prime wethers met with a keen demand and sold' readily up to 71s 4d. Good medium sheep sold at up to £3 and better. Larger yardings of fat ewesf than usual were brought forward and consequently values for these depreeiated slightly, extra prime young sheep selling up to 15s. Heavy ewes ex the flock averaged ' from- 38s lOd to 45s lOd. The hogget yarding was smaller than usual. Good quality prime black faces sold extra woll up to 51s ld. White faced woollies were nbt so keenly sought after, but nevertheless sold up to 41s ld. In the store sheep section cull ewes for fattening brought from 14s 9d to 22s 9d, while small wooily hoggets made 30s to 33s ld. Some extra prime quality ox were penned in the fat cattle section and , these were readily sought by butchers. Four prime beasts sold to £32 17s 6d arid two trucks on account ;of Mr. Eric Rowlands, Tokomaru, sold to £29 7s 6d and down to £27 7s 6d. The two trucks averaged £27 10s. Some extra prime heifers and young cows came forward, but didl not sell quite as readily as last week, when values hit the peak season price of £22 12s 6d.' Nevertheless, they changed hands at values from £18 to £20, while lighter sorts sold from £15 15s to £17 12s 6d. Good qualitv cows changed hands at from £16 10s to £18 10s. Medium sorts realised from £14 to £16, and lighter sorts down to -£12 17s 6d. Extra prime vealers met with keen competition, selling from £9 7s 6d to £11 2s 0d, while medium sorts made from £7 7s 6d to £9 2s 6d. Light baby vealers sold down to £3 17s RH

The pig yarding was heavier than usual throughout, butchers showing their appreciation of the extra prime heavy entry of porkers by bidding freely. Values for prime heavy porkers .-ranged from £6 to £6 5s, 'while medium baconers changed. hands- .a#; from £6 . 5s to £6 15s. Medjum- porkers made from £5 10s to £5 19s and lighter sorts £4 to £5. Heavy chpppers sold from £6 10s to £8 2s and medium sorts from £4 to £5 15s. The store yarding met- with keen competition again, - and a large entry was absorbed; under the hammer. Medium stores returned from £2 15s to £3 15s^fwhile lighter sorts made - from 38s to £2 13s. There was a good dairy yarding but it met. with poor demand. Prices dropped from £2 to £3 a head. Values for small heifers on drop amounted to between £8 and £8 10s, better quality heifers £10 10s to £11 10s and cows on drpp from £10 to £12 10s. The store cattle yarding was good and realised late rates. Two-year-old p.A. heifers brought £8-. 7s 6d.
