STABLES IN BOROUGH

More Talk Of The Need For Town Pianning Levin's need for a town pianning scheme was again emphasis-! ed by councillors at last night's meeting of the Levin BoroughCpuncil, when a request was made by a racing trainer for. permission to erect stables on a property in Bartholqmew Road. The request coincided with a report from the sanitary and health inspector, Mr. W- JGuinan, drawing attention to complaints which had been made to him regarding the erection • of stables in the borough. He quoted. instances of horses reaching over fences and hedges, and damaging gardens. The danger to health from flies which accumulate in the stable areas, and the damage done - to ■ verges by horses being exercised in borough streets. The damage in wet weather by the hooves on these areas mowed so carefully by many thoughtful residents was "most disheartening,"- he added. - , "During the past five years a large number of stables have been erected in the borough in closely populated areas/' continued • Mr. Guinan. "Some have been closed and at ieast one has been converted into a dwelling. In the near future it is proposed to erect a large stable near the cemetery." "I am sure you will agree that the proper place for stables is not in the borough's built up areas, but in the County areas about the porough. Perhaps a to.wn pianning scheme could deal with it." "The time is overdue for the defining of areas in the borough," said the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin. "I think we should get an expert on town pianning up here to advise us." * After further discussion, some !of which was taken in committee, it was. deci'ded to hold over the japplication meanwhile so that the ; co'uncil's^ position in regard to what steps it could take could be investigated.
