Pcrsoiidi! Mrs. A. Butt, of Otaki Gorge, is spending a few days with her son a)t Taita. Mr. J. Miller, of Waerenga Road, who has been visiting Auckland on holiday, has returned to Otaki. Mr. and Mrs.' A. Lumley and their son, Peter, of tlie Otaki Sanatorium farm, leave on Friday to spend a week in Pohangina. Miss Phyllis Fogden, of Tasman Road, and Miss Emma Snowdon,, of Iti Street, left on Wednesday for Rotorua to take part in representative basketball games.Mrs. M. Newdick and Master Barry Newdick, of Auckland, are spending a holiday in Otaki with the former's son, Mr. M. NewdicK, of Main Street, Mr. Newdick having just returned from a holiday in Whakatane. The death occurred at New Plymouth on August 28 of Mr. Harold Small, in his 70th year. Deceased, who followed farming pursuits at Te Horo before taking up residence at New Plymouth, leaves a widow and four sons to mourn their loss. A wedding of local interest was solemnised by the Rev. Father A. Venning at Kuku, Ohau, on Saturday, when Mr. Dave Nicholls, Junr., of the Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, was married 'to Miss Emma Brocklebank, of Christchurch. Friends from many parts of Horowhenua were present at the reception, held at Kuku.

The death occurred at Palmerston North recently of Mrs. Polly Gotty, aged 42 years. The interment took place at Tokorangi on Saturday, where a tangi was held. The deceased lady, who leaves a husband and family of six to • mourn their loss, spent her early days' in Otaki, four of her brothers being Messrs. Wi, Rangi, Mano and Dave Nicholls. Card Prize-winners The third of a series of six card evenings was held ' at the Raukawa Hall on Wednesday under the auspices of the Returned Services' Association, when there was the usual good attendance. Card winners were Mrs. L. Housiaux and Mr. A. Croshie (firsts) and Mrs. T. Henry and Mrs. S. Cook (seconds) . A lucky spot waltz was won by Mrs. D. Bryan and Mr. A. Crosbie. Mr. J. Miller carried out the duties of M.C. and dance music was supplied by Mr. C. Sharp.
