, WELLINGTON, September 3. Spring racing in the Wellington and Auckland provinces will be ushered in tomorrow when the Wanganui and Avondale Jockey Clubs will open their spring meetings. Large fields are . C^rded for both fixtures. At Wanganui divisions will be necessary inthe Maiden Race, but there is every prospect of divisions beiiig avoided in the Flying Handicap, only two scratchings being riechpsary. Last year's Avondale Cup winner, Valley Boy, heads a field, of 23 for tomorrow's contest. The Vaals gelding has 9.10, an increase of 101b on his last year's weight. The concluding day of the Addington Trots will also be held tomorrow.
» Foxton form might prove reliable at Wanganui. Conspiracy won the Foxton^ Cup so' comfortably that' he will be a firm favourite in the Marangai Handicap tomorrow. However, "Emerge, who ran second "to Conspiracy last week, oomes in- on much better terms and having benefited from the race is expected to go one better tomorrow. Emerge is very fit ahd at the weights might go one better than Conspiracy. Another prospect is "Imperial, who showed himself to^ be well forward in running fifth- in the sprint at Foxton. The Flying Handicap will see that smart hack Mangatiti make his debut in open compahy. The Wanganui straight will suit him and he will no doubt make an auspicious debut opening in the higher grade. Langspiel showed at Trentham that she has speed to { burn over six furlongs. Bert Mor-I ris has her looking as fit as ever. Other prospects are Sir Royai, Battle Survey/Tommy Gun and Air Belle. The Avondale Cup,is very open. Of the large field engaged six with very good prospects are Ascot Lad, Cowper, Double Chance, Valley Boy, Star Performcr and the lightweight Coogee. Both Cowper and Double Chance are fav, ouritesj with good support also for Ascot Lad and Valley Boy. Nbrthemj reports indicate that' Ascot Lad' and Double Chance are not with-1 out good prospects. Best form in the Sherills Han'di-j cap is held by Bustang, Tauloch.i Iwa Jima, Fencing, Regality and
Forth Bridge. H. Gray's stable expect Iwa Jima to run well.
