WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. Australia beat Wellington Province at soccer by 7 goals to 1 011 the Basin Reserve under perfect eonditions but for a time Ihe tourists got a fright. It .was an astonishing game. From earlv in Ihe first spell the visitors were for tlie first time on the tour 011 the debit flide of the score and they were to remain there till 15 minutes after halftime. Wellington put up a splendid performance in the first half, playing tlie Australians at their own game, never content unless they were after -the bait. • Henry Bell 's goal brought a wave of olation to the erowd. Having missed the first chance, he accepted the second, puttiug it away neatlv for the lead. From then on their shooting improved and their positionai play became, perfect. Wellington had not been very secure in spite of their aseeudency and now went to pieces. No fewer than six more goals were registered against them without eflFee-t-ive retaliation.
