Awapuni Track Work
A mile by the Marangai Handieap candidate, Landfire, was one of the trials at Awapuni yesterday morning, hut she was not out to "hreak the watches", and the programme, follo'wing the Foxton meeting, was a comparatively light one. The i'ast "vvork was done on tlie trial gras.s and the going was good. _ W. J. Broughton rode Landfire, anl after just brealdng 45 for the first three she was speeded up to run the last live in better than 1.8 and the last three in 40. A. 4. Messervy will ride Landfire at Wanganui. Royal Bliar (V. J. Sellars), looking( improved as a result of the race he had at Foxton, sprinted three furlongs with Speed King (D. Ilarris) and they were together ai'ter running the distance in 48. Desoado (A. Midvvood),' engaged in the Durie Haek Handieap, worked kindly over five furlongs with Prefa (A. Temperton ), and they were tiuied liome from the three in 41 2-5. Gossiper (G. R. Tattersall) was with Kumari (Broughton) after three furlongs whieh were run in mS 2-5. Gossiper is the Ninth I)uke — Cliat gelding. Ile will ridden by J. Campbell in the Debutant Stakes. Nerisser and the Probation -fillv travelled smoothiy when eutting three furlongs out in 38 1-5. Field Alarshal ( M rs. Christmas) and, later, Trafalgar Day (G. K. Tattersall) were given two-furlong sprints down the straight. Trafalgar Day pulled liard and wanted to go ou with it. Land Chief ( L. Wagner) and Kofleet (J. Ilarris) sprinted haif a mile in 53 l-5see. Eureka (Ilarris) and Legendre (Wagner) were timed to run five furlongs in 1.7 -1-5. Kippo (Aitken) and Luey Bian (Sellars) were together at the end of six run in 1.22 3-5. Tribute (Collins) and Foxcourt (Tattersall) seaiupered home from the three in 39 2-5. Winter Sport (Aitken) eovered seven furlongs in 1.3G 3-5, the last three in 42 2-5. The Dalloeh — Manna eolt, whieh will earry the eolours of Mr. M. 11. Oram, has been named Marloek. Ganges looked eertain to be in the money for the steepleehase at Foxton on Saturday when he broke down about iive furlongs from lorne. The Felous filly (Aitken), the Leighon lilly (Tattersall) and' the Felous gelding (Collins), all from the Knapp stable, finished iu that order at the end of three furlongs whieh the Felous filly rau iu 39 1-5. She will rare iir the Debutant Stakes as Dinero and she will be piloted by W. L. Aitken. Among the 'horses worked on the sand were Emerge, Lady Oratory and Gratuity.
