Australia To Reduce Ration From October 1

Received Wednesday, 11 a.m. CANBERRA, Sept. 1. The Federal Cabinet has decided to reduce the petrol ration for private cars by 20 per cent and other rations by 10 per cent. The cuts will operate from October 1. The ration for private motor-cycles pvili be rpduced to a mileage more closely approx'imating that of private cars. 'Special considerqtiqn will be given in cases where the full reductipn would involve the dislocation of essential transport, or cause pndue hardship. Annoqhcing the decisiqn the Prime Mini'ster, Mr. Chifley, said Lhat the numfier of vehicles registered was increasing so rapidly lhat it had accounted for a progressive increase in "the consumption of petrol of about 260,000 or 290,000 gallons monthly. He also "indicated that the Director-p-eneral of Civil Aviation would move with the cqntrqllers of liquid fuel to peg the consumption of civil axrlinp operators.
