Special Fifty Mile Road Cycling Race
To cater for the greatly increas- 1 ed number of junior road cyclists (the raising of the age limit to' 19 : years is a partial explanation) , the Wellington Centre, in conjunction with the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, will conduct a special 50-mile race from Otaki to Wellington on October 9. This event, a handicap contest, will follow the coast and is expected to i draw entries from ali parts of New * Zealand. Outstanding young riders like the national champion, Graham Howes, of Nelson, and the Wellington Provincial t-itle hclder, Graham Alexander, who, but for the recent move would now have attained senior status, are expected to compete. Trophies for the race will be comparable with those awarde'd seniox-s in the Palmerston NorthWellington event. Twelve out of 14 starters com- , pleted the stiff test of Awa Hilli in the Wellington junior massl start cycling championships, run over the Olympic course, on Sat- ' urday, when G. Alexander and J. Williams proved to be the steadiest riders. Alexander won the Port Nicholson championship, Williams the Poneke championship and R. Morris the Petone championship. 1
