Woman Drowned; Two Have Lucky Escapes

DARGAVILLE, August 30. Oue woman was drowned and two other people had a -remarkable escape when the ear iu wliic-h they were travelling c:apsized' into a large eanal about four miles from Ruawai early yesterday morning. The victim was: MISS* DOROTHY KAREN' BROMWICH, aged about 40. The driver of the vehiele was Mr. H. W. Hhirley, of Ruawai, who, aceompanied by his wife and Miss Bromwich, was returning home from Whangaroa. kfr. and Mrs. Shirley were able to extricate themselves after the ear had plung'ed into the ivater, but Miss Bromwich was pinned under the water. Mrs. Shirley i*eeeived cuts to both legs and Mr. Shirley a slight slioulder injury. They were not admitted to hospital.
