Power Board's Mobile Radio Equipment
Reporting to the monthly meeting of the Horowhentia EleCtric PoWer Board the .engineer, Mr. J. F. Bryb'e, stated that three mobile radios afe now in operation in the board's 'disti'ict. One is a base at Levin Dfep'ot and two are .mobile Stations in trucks. Fairly satisfactory results have been obtained OVer the greater portion of the northern .area. There are, however, ,a. few blind spots in which receptibp is • difficult, It has been found that^the mobile set can. in the majority . of these cases, pick up the base station but the 'base ytation is ..not always : able . tg receive from the mobile set. It may be fotind necessary to install a niore powerful base station. The equipment' has proved useful on several occasions. 1 ^orne time ago a 'defective insulator oh McDonaid Road ' put the maiii Shannon-Levin No. 1 feede'r out. Fortunately a consumer in the locality reported * the matter bnmediatbly, and the message was relayed by radio to the line oversefer who' hd,ppehed to be at Waitarere at the tifite. He was thus able to proeeea straight to the isoiating switch fbr the faulty section and have the power restbred to the .main feeder in the minimum of time. On a mofe rfccent Occasion a broken . wire On the Heatherlea-Foxton line was lOcalised and isolated in much" quicker time than would have been possible had the staff been forced to rely on the use of telephones from near-by residents.
