Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, report. that dunng the past week supplies of both tree tomatoes and Chmese gooseberries have been particularly shcrrt and values have been most attractive. Meyer lemons are also in short supply and ceiling price is readily o'otainable. Owing to heavy shipments of Australian oranges the demar.d for grapefruit is very weak and only selected sizes are realislng up to 15s per bushel case. In the vegetable section most lines are still realis■ing ceiling, such as silverbeet, pars-l nips, swedes, spring and savoy cab-j ibage, and Ohakune carrots. Mostl i attractive values are being .realisedi for spinach, celery and choice qual-j ity Hawkes Bay lettuce. With heavy consignments of flowers arriving, satisfactory values are still ( being obtained/ Heavy yardings of poultry have , been offered and choice heavy ' birds are bringing splendid values. Quotations are: — Fruit: Grapefruit, selected sizes, 10s to 15$; others, 8s to 10s; sweet oranges, 6s to -10s bushel case; tree tomatoes, 10s to 17s -3d; Chinesej gooseberries, 26s ~6d to 44s ^-case; Meyer lemons, ceiling.
