Striking Coal Miners Remain Stubborn.
AUCKLAND, August 19. No change oceiirrcd in ihe Huntly mines-stoppage today. The lMacdonald, GJen Afton and Fukeiniro mines again did not work and it is apparent that no move is being made to resume tomorrow. All other mines in the district again began work this morning- without diseussing the dispute and the Northern Miners' Union once more took no action, apparent lv considering that noHiing is to be added to the opposition to'the strilce already expressed by the majority of its ineinbers. Meetings of tlie Fukeiniro and Glen Afton miners were lield today to receive reports on the progress 'Oi the dispute. A spokesman for tlie Pukemiro miners said after their me'eting. that the branch was still solidly behiu ' "tlie Macdonahl miners and had requested a combined meetiug of miners from the three mines on strike. A similar statement was made mu the C.len Afton .meetiug. It was imlicated that represpntatives of the three mines would Uieet tomorrow to lix the time and place of the combined meetiug which prob ably would take place in Huntly on Saturday. The solidaritv of tlie miners on strlk'r' has made it more likelv that a future, move to end the stofijiage mnst emanatefrom Wellington. Mine managemehts.
