Basketball Games Closely Contested
X , "****" Games on Saturday in the Horowhenua basketball 'competitions were sgairi keenly contesied, the margin in at least four of . thej matches • being only on'e or two goals. Shannon B are showing better form this round and were defeated by Aces B by the narrow' margin of, eight* goals to seven. These giris deserve praise for the endeavours made to keep their team together in the faee of the expense of travelling to Levin each week. The shortage of ref'erees, unfortunate.y, makes it impossible to send teams to piay in Shannon. • In the third grade, Convent suffered an unexpeeted defeat at the hands of Coilege F, .the- 'score being eight goals to six. Coilege is playmg- better ' basketball this round, they they still do not maks. sufficient use of their ability to dodge 'their opponents- and forget c
that the smallest team makes up' for its lack of height by jumping for Ihe bal-l directed above their heads. The Convent team features some who give .good fexhibitions considering that they are primary school players. The closest game of the day was that between Old; Girls A and St. Jor.eph's, who won. by a margin of •one .goal. Both teams piayed hard, fast '.basketball and right up to the call of time it would h§,ve been impossible to forecast the winner. Coilege B piayed a good game against Tui A. Both these teams tumed in excellent basketball. The game was free- from infringements, not perhaps as fast as the Old Girls — St. Joseph's match, but markjed by clean passing, neat footwork and olever interception. ► T
