Compulsory Training Seen As Urgent Matter
DUNEPIN,' August 18. "The New Zealand Returned Services' Association has been consiatent in its attitude about compulsory military trai-ning as th,e basis for the future defence of this country. The matter is vital at the present timo,, and those in the position of responsibility should do something at once," declared the president of the Dunedin R.S.A. (Mr. A. J. Jeavous) at a meeting of the exeeutive last night He was reporting on the activities of a special defence eommittee that had been set up. The president said there had been expressions -of opinion in the community which were adycrso to the. idea of compulsory military training. "It is the correet and urgent solution to the problem," M.r. Jeavons said. "The best military bra.iis tliis conntry has produced are b'ehiud the idea. There are elements in the country prepared actively to support the programme to the contrary, and it is our duty to preas the matter nrgently,"
