Fat Sheep Values Rise At Levin Sale

There were again large yardings of fat stock at the Levin sale yes-te-rday where;. values for- sheep rose 5s to 7s per head on the,Rrevious week's quotations. Once niore there were large yardings of* fat cattle, the majority being P.A. .heifers, these selling on a par witli recenf rulings. Only -three oxen came forward and sold extremely well. The vealer section was again. disappointing, this line in the main being ex-dairy sorts, but nevertheless, prime sorts sold -exceedingly well. - The l^rgest yarding of dairle^ for some time met with keen competition throughout for cows and heifers elose to profit, aithough latecaiving sorts were fairly h.ard' to quit. One of the bjggest yardings of pigs for some months was penned and met with keen competition. Any pigs lackAng condition were'snapped up by fatteners wh-ile heavy, medium and light poi-kers met with extra keen competition from a large beneh of buteher buyers. Fat sheep, as mentioned previously, showed an upward trend, prime quality sorts selling from 59s lOd to 72s 7'd. Fat ewes were again short; of supply and any ppme sorts showing quality sold readily at values from 44s lOd to 52s ld. Very few prime black faced two-tooths came forward and those penne'ct sold readily well in advanee of vendoxs5 expectations up to 58s lOd. Not so many prime hoggets were penned but the quality on the whole was a gr-eat .deal better than usual _ and values for prime black faces lifted by 5s per head, selling. from 46s lOd to 57s 6d, Medium sorts nia.de fropi 42s ld to 46s ld, while lighfer . sor-ts sold from 35s, to 41s >-7d. . • ' The following is a range Qf the pxices realised for cattle:.
