No Settlement Of Huntly Coal Strike
AUCKLAND, August 16. Th e strike at the Macdonalrl, Glen Afton and Pukemiro eoalmines unexpeetedlv pontinued this morning and tonight. After a day of conferences' and eonsuttations, tlie men and mauagomenT were no ncarer to a settlement.* However, there may be some developments from a meeting of the men of the Maedonald mine which is to be held in Huntly tomorrow- at'ter-noon. The loss of eoal production amounting to 1400 tojis a day has now risen •to nearly 6000 lons sinee the strike sta-rled in the Maedonald mine last Wednesday. The Glen Afton and Puke miro mines joined th;e strike on TliursPl'hyY'rfiaking more than 70T) men idle. Their loss in pay -is alreadv about £5000. Two Main Trunk 'goods trains have been caneelled as a result of the strike in the Waikato eoalfields, according to iMurnarunui railway offie-ials.
