Shannon Plunket Society
At the committ.ee meeing of the Shannon sub-branch. of the Plunket Society, presided over. by.. Mrs.. L. W. Wilson, 'the m'ain item of iiiterest was the retirement of Nurse Hight after 25 years' service,- the last eight of which have been spent in this district. It was decided to mark the occasion by tendering her a social evening on August 18. Admission will be. by ticket or a donation at the door. It was agreed to reglac.e the annual ball with a %arden/pa]rty ;this year. The nurse's report for the moritli was as follows: — Visits to- Shannon totalled five, while- 13 visits were paid to homes. Babies brought. td the rooms numbered '46 and .there were thr.ee pre-school children. There were 48 adiilts , and three new babies visi.ting 'th'e roonlS during the month. , Colds were very prevalent and the attendance had not been good as- mo'st Thursdays during the month; were wet. There were four * babies'/fro;m Mangaore. Subscriptions were' acknowledged from Mesdames " V. "J." Bateman, Foote (Makerua)',- V.' Robinson, L. Payne, D. Cole, R. Lind, E. Barber, I. F.- Leng-Ward, D.; Pig'ott, K. P. Robinson and R. Thompson.
