Authoress Will Become Cattle Drover
Droving more than 1000 heacf of cattle over 400 mnes, from Blackall, iQueensland, to Bourke, New South Wales, is one Australian girl's idea of fun. She is 25 year old Mary Lenane, a Sydney telephonist and writer of popular short stories. During the ten week trip- on ihorseback Mary will have to keep the cattle moving six miles a day along narrow stock routes. She will take her turn with other drovers in guarding the cattle at night. Mary went to Sydney from the country town of Cootamundra three years ago. An expert horse■woman, she has competed in rodeos and buck-jumping contests. She served as a "jackaroo," or apprentice station hand, for 12 months on a large sheep property. A tall, attractive blonde, Mary has written a full length novel, "Fioods of Destiny," which 1? in the hands of the publishers. She has also had more than 60 short stories published. "The droving trip vTUl give me a chance to get mauerial for another novel," she said in Sydney.
