Congratulations are due to the junior representative team for its. grand performance at Wairoa on Saturday, when it defeated thej opposing team 14 — 9. Some excel-| lent football was seen, the game throughout being-a clean '-and open tussie. The Horowhenua backs made good use of the ball whenever thej opportunities arose, although there is room for improvement liere, especially on attack: Quickef pass-j ing by the inside backs to-give the! centre more room to work would make for improvement. The backs showed good taekling and were ■ sound on their generai defer.ee! work. Among the backs who did. j ! good work was Catley, who was : notable for his backing and the way in which he made openingsj for his wings. Ropata's fine positional play and , ■ line kicking savecl the forwards : much unnecessary iunning. Koro;' and Lind were sound and made use : of every opening. Merwood, when brought into the position of second | 1
five-eighths during the second half, sharpened up the attack. The forwards played well, their packing and dribbling being very gcod, althought their heeiing from the rucks was slow at times. Outstanding in the line-outs was Desgrande, who also started many forward rushes with Wikaira. A. Royal played a sterling game and was 011 the ball all the time. Judd was seen in sonie superb backing up work.
