Corbishley, endeavour.to retain their trophy against a chalienge from O. C. Lagor.and A. E. Hastedt.' • - As the three. qualifying. rounds for positional play in the championships have now been finalised, the draw for the senior, intermediate and junior grades is now in the process of being finalised. Full details of the draw will be- published next week and also posted in the clubhouse. • Topical Notes The unprecedented rainfall during the present season has had a detrimental effect on the majority of members in their scoring efforts. As the seasons change, so scoring changes, mainly to the higher category, and players have to adapt themselves to the altered conditions with entirely different methods of shot making. At the moment, sodden fairways and equally heavy greens are the order of the day. Until spring comes and conditions improve, the following hints may be of- use to members: — The Half-Iron shot: This shot 'can be one of the most useful shots in the bag and should split the pin, particularly when the fairways are soft and mushy. ' A full mashie shot played under present conditions is, too apt to lead to error, for if the club hea'd touches the ground at ail during the stroke, a large divot is taken and conse-| quently distance is sacrificed. It is; much better for the player of med: um ability to play an easy lofted iron, with a short pivot and short follow through. Care should be taken with the follow through, as this is the portion of the shot which directs the ball to the green and the. pin. If a full finish is atternpted, the ball might easily be steered into the wrong path. The correet finish has the arms and the club pointing to the hole and definitely no fiirther. Wrists must be fiexible to allow perfect club liead freedom, but care should be taken not to allow the club to get out of- control. The left hand should be regarded as the master qf the swing. The right hand produces the punch, but if the left is ignored the right gets in too soon. Pulled Putts; This always means that the right hand is doing too much of the woi'k. Hooking: May be caused by a faulty grip, so you must look to your grip if you find your shots re sailing away to the left. See that your left hand is^not too much over the shaft, or your right hand too far under it. See the two V's on looking down at your normal grip.
