AIR OF ANTI-CLIMAX WHEN MEDALS PRESENTED

Received Thursday, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. There was an atmosphere of anticlimax at the" Wembley Stadium today at the ceremony of handing over the four goM medals to the United States for its victory in the -100 metres relay. The victory stand was not in the arena. None of the athletes concerned appeared, and the American National Anthem was not played, although the band of the Royal Marines was in atten'dance. Lord Burghley made the presentation to Mr. Dan Ferris, secretary of the American Amateur Athletic Union. Lord Burghley said that victory under the circumstances in which Britain had originally been declarcd the winners was unsatisfactory. He was glad the wrong had been remedied when it was found that a mistake had been made. Mr. Ferris sai'd he was sorry that such action had been necessary, but it was fitting that; the sportsmanship which had characterised the entire Games had been shown.
