TWELLINGTON, Aug. 11. j The hearing of a charge oi manj Jaughter against Bertrand Alexan- ! oer, 25, a painter, opened in the J Magistrate's Court today before Mr. E. Lee, S.M. The charge concorns the death of Franfeis Phillip j Alinogue, who died in Wellington Hospi.al on December 25 after he had been found lying unconscious in a Wellington lane on Christmas iEve. Chief Detective H. Compton i prosecuted for the police and Mr. R. Hardie Boyes, with him Mr. F. Walxer, ^ippeared for accused. i Fredenck Sipos said in evidence that he had heard Minogue falling to the ground in Dixon Street after he had passed a scuft'le in wliich deceased and another man were involved. Witness then saw Minogue lying on' the ground. He appeared to be unconscious. Witoess spoke to the man whom he nought had hit Minogue, and that man then attended to Minogue. Asked by Chief Detective Compton if he could identify that man m court, witness said he was not 1G0 per cent sure. Helen Francis- Sipos, wife of 'the previous witness, corroborated .he evidence of her husband. She said that at a police identification parade of 14 men on July 14 she had identified one man whom she tnougnt had been the aggressor in tlie Christmas Eve scuffle.
