Fat Sheep Values Remain At High Level
There was a capacity yarding of sheep at the Levin sale yesterday when values for fat ewes and hoggets fully maintained last week's ihigh level. Values for wethers, however, depreciated to the extent of 5s per head, this being brought about by the release of frozen meat from the works to butchers. Top price realised for wethers was £3 7s lOd, while good truck lines ahd well-woolled heavy sheep all made from £3 to £3 6s 7d. The yarding of the fat ewes was hedvier than usual and prices ranged from 43s lOd for medium sheep to 50s ld for heavy. Good quality blac'k faced two-tooths made from £2 8S lOd to £2 14s lOd, while ligfiter sorts changed hands at from £2 to £2 7s 7d. Good quality hoggets realised up to 53s 4d, which was the top price. Medium hoggets brought 41s 4d to 46s lOd, while light and unfinished sorts sold down to 33s lOd. 0 A large yarding of pi'gs came forward for this time of the year and values for heavy porkers were extremely satisfactory, ranging from £5 18s to £6 6s. Medium porkers mad'e from £5 to £5 17s and light porkers from £4 15s to £4 19s. Small and unfinished pigs were snapped up by fatteners at values ranging from £3 5s to £4 ls. Good quality store pigs sold from £2 15s to £3 15s, while lighter sorts ranged down to £2 6s. • One of the best quality yardings of fat oxen heifers and cows submitted for some' time was fully appreciated by butchers, and values on the whole were extremely satisfactory to vendors. Good quality medium oxen sold from £23 12s 6d to £24 17s 6d, while good quality light oxen changed hands at prices ranging down to '£20 2s 6d. Extra prime P.A. heifers of medium weight sold from £17 17s 6d to £19 12s 6d and lighter sorts down to £15 15s. Extra prime young cows changed hands at froih £15 2s 6d to £18 17s 6d, while prime P.A. runners returned from £10 12s 6d to £12 17s 6d. The veal yarding was very light, the majority being" exdairy sorts, The prime ex-dairy cows and heifers met with extra keen competi'tion and sold from £13 7s 6d to £15 7s 6d, while medium sorts changed hands from £9 7s 6d to £12 17s 6d. A smaller dairy yarding than usual was penned and . values for quality cows, springing and close to profit, ranged from £14 to £15 15s. Later calving sorts, r.w.b., changed hands at current values.
