Birthday Celebrated At Paraparaumu

The Anglican Hall at Parapa-i-aumu looked very gay and springlike on a recent afternoon, with its decorations of buddlea, bulbs, poppies and japonica, the occasion being the eieventh birthday of the : Paraparaumu branch of the Women's Division *of Fe'derated Farmers. There was a large attendance of members and visitors from far and near. Among those present were Mrs. R. Jenkins, provincial president, and Mrs. H. J. McLeavey, Dominion treasurer. The three past-presidents of the branch, Mesdames R. MacLean (first) , Hercock (secoird) and Ilarris (third) were all present, and . birthday greetings from other branches were brought by the presidents of Levin, Te Horo, Waikanae, Otaki and Ohau branches. Addresses were given by Mes'd&mes Jenkins and MeLeavey, each lady being the recipient of a spray of flowers. Mrs. Baucke, a visitor from Otorohanga was specially v/eicomed, being one of the foundation members of the Para- . paraumu branch. J A gay part of the proceedings was the cutting of the large ice'd birthday cake with its eleven candies. This was performed by each of the visitors who, after expressing birthday greetings, were the recipients of shoulder sprays. Mrs. G. Hadfield, president of the Women's Institute gave greetings on behalf of members of the institute. For entertainment an enjoyable programme was provided. Miss Kora Lang gave two pianoforte solos, an amusing play was staged by Mrs. C. Reeves, Mrs. Frederikson, Mrs. Cox, Miss Dolg and Mrs. E". Howell; a humorous sketch byMrs. Reeve and Miss Doig; for the Junior division a recitatiori by Valerie Potts, "Not Understood," qnd'a duet, "Haere Ra," by Valerie Potts and Bell Udy. 1 Mrs. Boyd was the winner of the lucky cup, Mrs. Cox the birthday present and Mrs. Richardson the cake. Afternoon tea was served. Mrs. Harris, president, thanked all those who had helpe'd to make the party such' a successful and happy on£. ,
