Genero's Attractive Win At Hastings
There was some fine- jumping intlie Harold Russell Memorlal Steeplechase at Hastings on Saturday and a really pleasing performance was that ' of the winner, Genero. The occasiou was the first day of the two-day hunt club meeting, the annual race fixtures of the Hawke's Bay Hunt and the Dannevirke Hunt. The weather was hrilliantly sunny, the -attendance very good and the course in fair order. The totalisator. , turnover was a little better than last year. •• , • The open seven, the Tikokino Handicap, saw Sir Royal win in a keen contest. Battle Survey, one of the leaders ajl the way, was still in eharge a furlong from the winnlng post, with Indian.Song, Broilyn, Sir Royal and Night School ehallenging. Sir Royal got .a niee run ncxt the rails and, ridden out, beat Indian Song by three^quarters of a length. Battle Survey was a neck away third and Tussock, Night Seliool and Broilyn followed. Precedency ran a long way behind the rest of the" lipld. His running was inquired into; and his connections were fmed.
