Fruit Supplies Ease With Firming In Prices
i Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce mercbants, Wellington;' report that during the past week supplies of fruit have eased oif greatly an'd values have accord- j ingly firmed. Chinese gooseberries 'are meeting with an exceptionalj demand. There is a very strong1 demand for all choice lines, par-j ticularly cabbage, parsnips, Oha-j kune carrots and siiverbeet, with most other lines realising very, attractive values. There is still a firm deman'd for flowers in spite of larger supplies. Heav^ yardings of poultry have. been offered and there is a very keen demapd for all choice quality birds.. Quotations for the past week are: — Fruit: Tree, tomatoes, 8s. to 15S; Chinese gooseberries (large) , l(;s tb 32s 6'd; Meyer, lernons, ,6s to 8sJ i-case; passion fruit, 3s 6d to 4s 6d dozen; choice grapefruit, 10s to' 16S 6d; sweet or^nges, 10s to 21s case. Flowers: Poppies, art, £s to 12s; tangerine,- 3s to 9s; sol d'ors, 8s to 14s ^d; daifoidils, 10s to 14s; jonquils, 6s to 9S"%d"gloss; violets, 2s 6d to 4s 6d dozen; freezias, 9s to 14s gross; erica, ls to ls 3d; carnations, 3s to 6s bunch. Vegetables: Beetfoot, 12s to 16s; cauliflowers (sack), 14s to 16s; cel'ery, 35s* to'39s; leeks/ 25s' to"'32s; spinach, 25s to 35s/ lurnips, 18s to24sr; rhubarb, 18s to '29s; " lettu'ce, Hawke's Bay, 25s to 29s; local, 10ts to 14s case; cabbage, Ohakune 'carrots, kumeras, siiverbeet, parsnips, ceiling price; artichokes, 8s; swe'des; 8s bag; pumpkins, red, 4s to 8s; triumble, 6s to 10s; marrows, 8s to 14s sack; onions, £18 10s to £20 a ton.
