AUCKLAND, -August 5. A waterside workpr suffdred multiple injuries from which he Idie'd > shortiy afterwards, when ho fell into No. 3 hold ofthe Eastern and Australian Steamship Company 's steamer Eastei'n . at Export wharf soon after 1 o'clock this afternoon. He was Harold Green, aged^ 58, married, of Parnell. With other workers Green was en-" gaged in imlashing and removing a canvas tent placed over the hold as a temporary eover in case rain fell in the luneh hour, as the ship, which wras discharging a London cai'go, was nearly empty. Green fell 43ft 6in to the- steel bottom of tlie hold. The nearest man to him had his back turned at the time and Green , w not seen falling over the hatcli c nming. Slabbed hatch covers w..'> :t a:- te.d alongside the eoaming. Green died in the ambulance which was taking him to hospital. Only No. .3 and No. 5 holds of the ship were being worked and the meu went home after the aceident.
